At The Evil Jam (TEJ) we are committed to quality and at times we like to let you the reader in further to the back stage area as possible.
This piece explains how either the Editor or the Webmaster review DVD’s, CD’s, SACD’s and DVD-A’s as well as DVD-DTS also known as the media for the website.
When we receive any of the above we first take a look at the packaging and any booklets that accompany the media. Sometimes we note funny quirks in the packaging or artwork so that we can write about them in the review.
We then either sit down and watch the media, or listen to the media in the front room of TEJ headquarters in Coventry.
If it is visual media we often use the following equipment,
Visual Media

The LG 42 Inch PG6000 ( image courtesy of LG Electronics )
An LG Plasma 42 inch TV model number PG6000, and a Denon 1940 DVD and Multi Media player which is connected by a standard HDMI lead and is set at 1080i or p.
The sound runs from the Denon into a Yamaha Home Cinema Amp model number RXV361 and from there into two front Yamaha speakers, two rear Sony speakers and a Yamaha Sub Woofer for the bass, the centre speaker is made by KEF and it is the Cresta 20c model.
If it is audio media we would tend to use the following equipment,
Audio Media
A Denon 1940 DVD player as it also reads DVD-A and SACD as well as CD, DVD DTS and MP3 amongst other audio formats.

This is the combined with the Yamaha Home Cinema Amp model number RXV361 and from there into two front Yamaha speakers, two rear Sony speakers and a Yamaha Sub Woofer for the bass, the centre speaker is made by KEF and it is the Cresta 20c model.
If it is a mix of both media’s then of course we would include the LG TV also.
We then watch the DVD at least three times in full the first time for pure enjoyment then remaining times to make notes and to start the review, it is during these viewings that we will often fully explore the Extra’s that are bundled in with DVD’s.
If it is an Audio review then we will at least listen to the media more than four times, again similar to the process above we will take notes and start to form the review and then conduct some research.

Once we are happy with how the review is coming along, we may watch or listen to the media through the TEJ computer whilst writing the final draft of the review to check that we didn’t miss anything.
Once we are pleased that we have not over looked anything and we have all our facts in place and we feel that we have given a fair and often helpful review. It then goes for publishing on the TEJ website were you the reader can read and digest the review. We then hope you can read it at your own leisure and make your own mind up as to whether or not you fancy taking a chance with the CD or DVD etc that we have reviewed.
Finally with regard to Books, we just read them and then go back through the book for any interesting pieces that we can reveal in a review without spoiling the book.
We then start to write the review, but we may often refer back to the book or various chapters over the course of writing the review. Once we are happy with the review we then publish it and then we allow you the reader to make your own choice hopefully based on our review and your own research.
We hope this has explained to you the reader of the website how we here at TEJ conduct reviews, thank you for reading.
Mark the Editor.
